Best of the week: Comics bought 1 December
|
Like last week's post, this was going to be late. But between me not getting away to Sydney for the weekend as planned, and it being a small week, it's actually early. Still, look for next week's to be fairly late.
And this post will be short, since it was such a small week.
Previous weeks:
Cover of the week:
52 Week 30, by JG Jones
Quote of the week:
"I know! Who would've thought a few days in Hawaii would have the same warm effect on me as blowing up a school bus load of kids?!" - The Joker, deranged as always, Batman/The Spirit
Best of the week:
52 Week 30 DC Comics Written by Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison, Greg Rucka and Mark Waid Art breakdowns by Keith Giffen Art by Joe Bennett and Ruye Jose Cover by JG Jones
Has Batman gone bat-shit crazy? That's the question posed in this issue guest starring Batman, Robin, and Nightwing - maybe two of them. And it features Batwoman, as well. As Batman continues his retraining with Nightwing and Robin, he seeks to excise his inner demons, which leads to a fun meeting between Nightwing and Batwoman.
Meanwhile, the Question is getting sicker, on his deathbed, with only Montoya looking after him. Both plot threads are handled nicely, with you caring about the characters, and what happens to them. Montoya's reached a turning point, which should affect her throughout the remainder of the series. Another excellent issue of 52.
I read the originals:
- Green Lantern: Revenge of the Green Lanterns looks at the ramifications of Hal Jordan's time as Parallax, as well as features a follow up of sorts to Alan Moore's brilliant Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?.
- While not technically a comic, Angel Scriptbook Volume 1 is a must read for fans of Angel and screenplays in general.
- Transformers: Infiltration Manga Volume 1 is a digest sized reprinting of the dodgy as hell miniseries. Not great stuff at all.
Cancellation:
- Star Wars: Legacy refused to pick up the pace, so I'm no longer bothering with it.
